This recent development consists of two large
detached houses in a leafy part of the London
suburb of Hampton.
On the site of a former
1950s chalet bungalow of no particular merit,
and surrounded by 150 year old Beech trees,
Quad have created two houses firmly in the
modernist tradition but updated with key,
typically Quad, detailing. Of particular note
is the innovative framed sliding timber window
assemblies and external louvres to the first
floor bedroom windows that can be seen peeping
over the mature privet and laurel hedging
that bounds the plots. In fact, the presence
of the two houses on the street is surprisingly
modest given their size, and the white rendered
walls provide a dramatic contrast to the greenery
afforded by the trees and hedging.
The local planning authority, Richmond Upon
Thames, were supportive of the scheme throughout
the planning process and its support has been
rewarded with a small housing development
of the highest design quality and standard
of finish.
